Mascara is a must-have beauty product for most makeup wearing individuals. It can enhance your eyes and make you look awake and polished. But can you still wear mascara if you have eyelash extensions? The answer is yes, but should you? It depends. There are a few things you need to know about wearing mascara on your eyelash extensions.

If you wear mascara on your eyelash extensions, it’s important to choose a product that is specifically designed for use on eyelash extensions. Mascara should only be used on classic eyelash extensions. If you use mascara on volume eyelash extensions the lash fans will close on themselves and not give you the desired “fluffy look” that you wanted.
Regular mascara can be too heavy by adding extra weight to the eyelash extensions and cause them to fall out prematurely. Using mascara on your eyelash extensions can be damaging because some mascara formulas have oils and ingredients that dissolve the eyelash extension adhesive over time.
That oil is capable of damaging the eyelash adhesive and breaking the bond between the eyelash extensions and natural lashes way sooner than we would want.
You must actively avoid mascara with ingredients like lanolin, castor oil, beeswax, carnauba wax, paraffin, mineral oil, turpentine oil, linseed oil, eucalyptus oil, and sesame oil.
Waterproof mascara formulas can be difficult to remove and may damage the lash extensions by drying them out and causing them to be brittle and fall out prematurely.
Wearing waterproof mascara on your eyelash extensions is not a great plan because it is very difficult for the lash artist to remove all of the mascara build up on your eyelashes before your refill appointment starts. There are just a handful of ways to remove it without intense rubbing, pulling, or snagging. This can cause lash extensions to fall out early and damage your natural lashes.
If you must wear mascara with your eyelash extensions, look for a lighter, water-based mascara that won’t cause any natural lash damage. They’re safe for the sensitive skin around the eyes. They dry quickly and can be removed with nothing but warm water.
When applying the water based mascara to your eyelash extensions, be sure to use a light hand and focus on the tips of the lashes, rather than the roots. This will ensure that the water based mascara will not be in contact with the eyelash extensions adhesive.
Wearing mascara on your bottom eyelashes is approved by us at Beautiverse. As long as your bottom eyelashes are thoroughly cleaned at the end of every day, you are able to safely wear mascara with eyelash extensions.
Failure to remove bottom mascara at the end of the day will result in the mascara transferring to the top lash line when you are sleeping, causing buildup and later on if neglected, will cause blepharitis.
Using mascara on lash extensions isn’t normally necessary. If you are looking for more volume and density to your eyelash look, ask your eyelash artist to amp up the volume a bit at your next refill appointment, provided that your natural eyelashes can support the increase.
